Atelier Wen Ancestra 蛟 (JIĀO): Where Enamel Art Meets Ancient Chinese Myth

Ancestra 蛟 (JIĀO) marks a new chapter for Atelier Wen, blending traditional Chinese mythology with artisanal craftsmanship. Inspired by the Hongshan jade dragon, its flowing 38mm case (in 904L steel) features detachable lugs and engraved screws. It’s a design that feels sculptural, yet restrained.

The centerpiece is a grand feu enamel dial laid over hand-hammered 925 silver, with a soft gradient from silver to deep cobalt. Two dial variants are offered—one with Chinese calligraphy numerals, the other with stylized Arabic numerals—both alternating with baguette diamonds.

Inside beats the French-made Pequignet EPM03 automatic movement, customized with black-polished components, a skeletonized 5N gold rotor, and a bridge micro-etched with classical Chinese poetry. It’s regulated to chronometer-like standards and visible through a sapphire caseback.

The strap is hand-stitched Epsom leather with a refined tang buckle. Early pre-orders get a suede alternative. The watch is priced at $5,850 USD and is available only from July 29 to August 4, 2025. No reissues are planned.

What Stands Out:

  • Exceptional dial work and enameling rarely seen at this price.
  • A poetic, well-integrated movement design.
  • Strong cultural storytelling without gimmicks.

What to Consider:

  • Slightly higher price than previous Atelier Wen models.
  • Visually rich—some may find it too ornate for everyday wear.
  • Limited preorder window means you can’t wait and see.

Verdict:

The Ancestra 蛟 is a confident, artistic step for Atelier Wen. For collectors drawn to enamel, symbolism, and poetic detail—it delivers a compelling blend of Eastern craft and horological substance.
